💭 Are you fine on paper?

Last week’s post struck a chord. So many people got in touch. People who, on paper, have a great job and title but also big financial responsibilities for their household.

Many say they’re feeling a bit lost, demotivated, frustrated and not sure what comes next.

So last Friday, we ran a small trial session with six brilliant volunteers to explore what might help. I’ll be doing much more on this soon, but in the meantime, here are three things you could try THIS WEEK if you’ve spent years working hard, managing politics, and realise you’ve slightly neglected your external world.

1️⃣ Volunteer your skills.

Try volunteering for something local, doing something either that’s relevant to the job that you want and/or the skills you want to develop.

This weekend I MC’d the local Hursley 10k. If I were an accountant looking for a job I could’ve volunteered to do the books. If I wanted to become a personal trainer I could’ve done the warmup. And if I wanted to do more photography, like Nick Turner who is tagged, I’d have turned up and taken some fantastic pictures.

2️⃣ Sign up for an event.

Sign up to an event that’s relevant to the industry or area that you want to explore or grow into. Catch up on the latest news and connect with friends old and new. Like seeing Joeli and Elliot at Women In Work.

3️⃣ Add a bit of joy into every work trip or visit.

Whenever you go anywhere for work, make a little bit of time to catch up with somebody that you haven’t seen for a while. Or meet someone for coffee that you’ve been working with but haven’t met in person yet.

If “Fine on Paper” resonates, please do let me and Elaine know so we can keep you updated.
