Revelations from our year of all-change

This time last year we were living in an ‘80s townhouse in Zone 2 Tower Hamlets. We bloody loved it. But the familiar crunch of nos canisters underfoot and taking our football-crazy daughter to training in a multi-storey car park lined with AstroTurf suggested a change was needed.

Flash forward to today, waking up (finally!) in our new home. The process has felt frustrating, expensive, and very grown up.

What all the ‘growing up’ has taught me:

  • 🧍🏻‍♀️People, people, people. Buying a house is much like any other big life decision—you think it’s all about money, location, searches, and it is… but really it all comes down to the people at each stage. Avoid getting into anything with someone who you dread getting messages from.

  • 🙅🏻‍♀️ ‘Never’ is just a barrier, not a dead-end. Review your established ‘deal-breakers’ and re-evaluate your possibilities. (Which has seen me re-learning to drive and throwing myself into cold rivers)

  • 🐘 How do you eat an elephant? Complexity is stifling. Sometimes the enormity of what needs to be done can feel too big. But it’s really just a million teeny decisions one after another after another…

Next?

A break for August!

My friends: you are bloody wonderful. THANK YOU for watching, commenting, liking and messaging. If you think Dominic Collard is right that we should meet in the autumn, tell us where and if there are any vlog guests you’d like to hear from in person.

See you after our strong and determined Lionesses bring football home ⚽️
