What people REALLY want from bosses will surprise you

The power to make work better is ours.

The big question this week is: why aren’t we stepping up?

Especially when the Gallup data we touched on last week shows that, globally, 65% of us experienced a lot of stress (44%) or anger (21%) just yesterday.

I gave 11 different workshop teams a magic wand and asked them to create “the most appealing and productive world of work they could imagine.”

One team called it Harry Pottering⚡️because they could have magicked up ANYTHING.

But, it turns out that what they actually want is almost… anti-climactic.

🍔 Lunch breaks

🖨 Tech that works (printers were mentioned a few times)

📒 Clarity about their roles and those of others

✅ Clear deliverables

📅 Development plans

🤷🏻‍♀️ Good inductions for new people

💡 Fewer and shorter meetings (ban PowerPoint!)

📑 Shorter documents (maybe four pages max?)

⛔️ Boundaries

⭐️ Only one group listed a pay rise, whereas another thought a team biscuit tin would be nice.

We then asked them to tick anything that their team leader had the power to deliver, and put a dot next to anything they could influence.

And what do you know?

Turns out that almost everything they want is within the power of their leader. So why, in the name of Harry (Potter or Styles, see vlog), don’t we do it?! Please tell me.
